 Heather Detwiler, a B.S. Health Science in the pre-accelerated nursing major received funding to support to study abroad in Australia at the University of Canberra. Her research focused on the treatment and prevention of concussions in young soccer players and was conducted in conjunction with the Australia Institute of Sport.


Erin Smith, a senior Pre-Med student receive funding to support her research with Dr. Cynthia Surmacz. Erin will develop and validate techniques to measure the antioxidant enzymes catalase and superoxide dismutase in honey bees and to compare the enzyme levels in control honey bees and those treated with sublethal doses of the common neonicotinoid pesticide imidacloprid.


Dr. Jonathan Busada from the National Institute of Environmental Health Science (NIEHS/NIH) and a 2010 graduate from BU with a B.S. in Biology came back to present his research to current students and faculty. In addition to his research seminar, Dr. Busada answered questions from students related to graduate school life and his post-doctoral training experiences.
