Bloomsburg University Brings Most Successful Fundraising Campaign in University History to a Close

After seven years of widespread support and participation from alumni and friends, Bloomsburg University brought the It’s Personal Campaign to a close on June 30, 2017. The campaign exceeded its goal of $50 million dollars well ahead of schedule in November 2016, making it the largest and most successful campaign in Bloomsburg University’s history.

New ImageThe public phase of the It’s Personal Campaign launched in fall, 2015 following a five-year private phase. As the public phase of the campaign launched, more than 14,800 alumni and friends had already shown their support, with a total of $36,437,646 raised toward the ambitious $50 million goal. Since that time, the total number of donors has climbed to more than 18,000 helping to exceed the campaign goal.

The initial goal was to raise $50 million by the end of December 2017, but by early November 2016, the university had reached its mark, and the campaign cabinet recommended bringing the campaign to a close six months prior to the originally anticipated end date to coincide with the retirement of former Bloomsburg University president David Soltz.

“It is always a great achievement whenever an ambitious goal can be met and exceeded,” said Campaign Chair and 1972 Bloomsburg University graduate, Duane Greenly. “But to reach that goal so far ahead of schedule thanks to the overwhelming support and generosity of our donors who rallied together was truly an accomplishment for our entire university community to be proud of.”

Bloomsburg University Vice President for Advancement Erik Evans said, “The most inspiring part about this campaign, besides the financial resources we’ve been able to generate for our students, faculty and staff, is the creation of a culture of philanthropy. Members of the BU community really identified with the theme of this campaign, because to each of them, their experience at Bloomsburg has indeed been very personal. And it’s those personal experiences that have inspired them to make an impact by participating.”

The campaign focused primarily on four areas: Funding academic and athletic scholarships, recruiting retaining and recognizing outstanding faculty, growing professional experiences opportunities for students and investing in emerging opportunities.

“The successful conclusion to this campaign matters the most to our students,” Evans added. “They come here to discover their own paths to personal and professional success. This shows that the entire BU community is passionate about helping them achieve their goals.”

The campaign will culminate with a special event that is set for October 6. The event will kick off the 2017 homecoming weekend with a celebration on the quad where university and the Bloomsburg University Foundation will reveal the final total amount of funds raised during the course of the It’s Personal Campaign.
