The Bloomsburg University Foundation and Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg are highlighting alumni Jay and Ashley Collins for their recent contribution of nearly $15,000 to the Hale Football Endowed Scholarship.
“We’re deeply grateful for the Collins Family’s continued generosity,” said Jerome Dvorak, Executive Director of the Bloomsburg University Foundation. “Their ongoing commitment is a powerful example of how dedicated alumni help sustain and strengthen the Bloomsburg community for generations to come.”
Since 2009, Jay and Ashley Collins have been avid supporters of Bloomsburg and its students. Their recent gift not only showcases their gratitude for the programs and mentors that shaped them during their time as Huskies, but it serves as a moral imperative backed by faith and stewardship.
Jay attributes a large amount of his current wisdom and success to his time at Bloomsburg, specifically his time on the Bloomsburg Football Team under Coach Danny Hale.
“Coach Hale is one of those few individuals whose advice applies anywhere, no matter the time or place,” Jay stated. “He instilled an extreme sense of accountability in all of us. Those lessons come back every day.”
After graduation, Jay became the owner of Cornerstone Dental Lab, a company that manufactures medical devices for use in dentistry. Dentists take an impression of a patient’s teeth and send it off to Cornerstone Dental Lab which creates things like crowns, implants, and dentures.
Since 2008, the company has grown significantly, fulfilling Jay’s passion of both growing businesses and helping people. He prioritizes a clean, safe work environment for his over 100 employees, and finds joy in pushing himself and others above the level of mediocrity – of which he claims many people settle for.
Jay’s original intent was to direct his support solely toward Bloomsburg Football, but Title IX regulations encouraged a broader impact—leading him to extend his generosity to Women’s Soccer as well. The connection was a natural fit: Ashley played on the women’s soccer team during her time at Bloomsburg, and the couple had already developed a strong rapport with Head Coach Matt Haney.
“It was a blessing to be able to interact with the women’s soccer scholarship recipients,” Jay recalled, reflecting the joy he receives from stewarding others. “I love Bloomsburg, and I’m happy to see it grow.”
Jay’s decision to continually give back comes from a belief that the current generation of students need more guidance and financial assistance than ever, and that everyone has something to offer, whether it be scholarship donations or by sharing their wisdom and experience.
“If it wasn’t for God’s hand putting strong willed men in my life, I wouldn’t be where I am," Jay said. "I strengthened my relationship with God, I found my wife, my friends, and mentors through football. The least I can do is give financially.”
It starts with alumni getting involved on campus. The impact of donors like the Collins family can’t be overstated, as their contributions not only build their legacy, but the legacy of the entire Bloomsburg community.
