Bloomsburg Wrestling Honors Legends with Houk & Sanders Wrestling Room Dedication

The Bloomsburg Wrestling community, alumni, and friends came together on Sunday, September 7, 2025, for the Houk & Sanders Wrestling Room Dedication Celebration at Nelson Field House. The event honored the legacy of Russ Houk and Roger Sanders, the two winningest coaches in program history, whose leadership elevated Bloomsburg Wrestling to national prominence.

The day featured heartfelt reflections from Athletic Director Dr. Michael McFarland, current Head Coach John Stutzman, alumni, and members of the Houk and Sanders families. Speakers emphasized the coaches’ unmatched contributions—not only to building championship-caliber teams, but also to shaping the lives of countless student-athletes through discipline, mentorship, and lifelong lessons.

Following a ribbon-cutting and unveiling of the updated Houk & Sanders Wrestling Room—complete with brand-new mats funded through generous donor support—guests enjoyed a picnic-style reception and tours of the enhanced facility.

“The outpouring of support from alumni, families, and the wrestling community was overwhelming,” said Coach Stutzman. “Our supporters showed up and showed out. This day was about honoring two legends, but it was also a reminder that Bloomsburg Wrestling matters—and its future is bright.”

The dedication not only celebrated the past but also underscored the importance of continued support—through scholarships, attendance at matches, and community engagement—to ensure the program’s lasting success.
