Thank You for Helping Me Become a Husky

On Tuesday, August 16, Shawn Page, an incoming freshman student and member of the 2016 BU football team, rang the Carver Hall bell to celebrate the impact of the scholarship he received through the It's Personal campaign.

By funding athletic scholarships, Huskies fans and supporters personally invest in student-athletes, and, by extension, Bloomsburg’s athletic programs. These gifts help our student-athletes excel on the playing field and in the classroom. Athletic scholarships also help BU to maintain a competitive edge when it comes to recruiting top student-athletes.

As a highly coveted offensive line prospect from Upper Darby, PA, Page was heavily recruited by a number of Division II college programs in Pennsylvania, including West Chester and Lock Haven. He was also given the opportunity to join the football team as a preferred walk-on at the University of New Hampshire, a Division I program.

Page chose Bloomsburg University because of the rich tradition of the Huskies football program and the effort with which he was recruited, along with being offered the Robert J. Kenney '84 Annual Football Scholarship

“When I came here for my first visit with my father, and saw the campus and met with the coaches, I knew right away that this was the place for me,” Page said. “Knowing that I was being offered this scholarship and would also have the opportunity to attend a great state school with smaller classes that were best for my learning style made Bloomsburg the right choice.”

For Page, Bloomsburg University presented the perfect mix of a personalized education, an outstanding football program and recognition for his hard work and dedication to achieving his goal of playing college football.

“I want Mr. Kenney to know that I greatly appreciate this scholarship and the commitment he and the Bloomsburg athletic family have made to me,” Page added. “I won’t let him down. I can’t wait to get out on the field, have a great season and to beat West Chester!”
