A Better Me

Michael Bamford '16

Major: Business Management
Hometown: Doylestown, PA
Activities: Soccer, Student Athlete Advisory Committee (President), Orientation Workshop Leader (OWL)

With less than a minute left, I took the throw-in and assisted in the game-winning goal in the PSAC semifinal championship game. That memory and that feeling of pride will stick with me for a lifetime.

Coming to Bloomsburg was a chance to continue my dream and get a good education, without having too many student loans after graduation. I've been playing soccer since I was 5 and I didn't want to give that up after high school. I worked hard to get where I am and be good at the sport I love, so representing Bloomsburg in this way is a huge honor. I'm proud to wear my Bloomsburg gear.

I started receiving a soccer scholarship during my sophomore year. I tried to manage having a part-time job during soccer season and it was really hard to keep up with academics. The scholarship support I receive means I don't have to worry about finding a job and lets me continue playing soccer and being involved on campus.

Without playing an intercollegiate sport or being involved with athletics here at Bloomsburg, I wouldn't be where I am today. It's definitely made me a better student. I'm learning the value of time management and communication. I'm even getting a better GPA now than I did in high school. That makes me feel really good about myself and about my future.
