Med School Made Possible

Katie Mullen '17

Hometown: Bloomsburg, PA
Activities: Pre-Medical Sciences Club (President), Honors Program, Catholic Campus Ministry, Quest Outdoor Leadership Program
Scholarship Received: Breiner Scholarship

I’ve always been fascinated with muscles and bones, so I knew I wanted to go into the medical field, but I didn’t think I’d end up at Bloomsburg. It’s my hometown school, so I’ve always kind of dismissed it, but I was surprised to learn they have a great science and honors program. The combination of good academics and a great scholarship changed my perspective.

My scholarship allows me to focus on my academics and will help me graduate debt free—something that will be crucial as I head off to medical school. But what’s even better is that I’ve gained two of the best cheerleaders I’ll ever have: my scholarship donors. They truly believe in me and offer their support throughout the year—that’s the biggest blessing.

I knew I’d get a good education here, but didn’t realize I’d end up loving it as much as I do. I’ve been able to do some really unique and interesting things, from rock climbing with the Quest Outdoor Leadership program to doing summer research on polymers with my professor and even going on a mission trip to Jamaica with Catholic Campus

Ministry. I couldn’t be happier with my decision and I’m grateful for all the faculty, student and donor support that helped me on my way.
