For Huskies like Luna, scholarships are more than just financial support. They are the key to making her BU experience more than just getting her degree.

When she began her BU career, Luna was the recipient of the Presidential Leadership Scholarship, which opened the door for her to embark on a remarkable BU Journey.

“From my first visit to BU, I felt welcomed with open arms,” Luna says. “Between being recruited by the OWLs at orientation to being contacted by the honors advisors to see if there is anything they can do to help, I had an amazing experience, and the support I’ve received since then has helped me grow so much more as a leader.”

In addition to being a member of the BU Honors College and the Presidential Leadership Program, Luna was also an active member of Army ROTC when she arrived at BU. Since then, Luna has received several additional scholarships and has become more involved on campus.

She has also devoted a great deal of time to the women’s rugby club and BU’s Equality Alliance. In addition to her roles as a volunteer and leader in the BU community, Luna also was recently named student employee of the year for her exemplary work in the First Year Experience office.

Luna was aware of BU from stories her brother, a 2019 graduate, had shared with her and her own research and exploration. She knew the environment she had heard about was a place where she could find success. But it was the way the community embraced her that truly drew her in.

“Many people talk about how beautiful the campus is with its aesthetically pleasing campus, but I believe that the most extraordinary aspect is the people. I have never felt so truly appreciated and accepted as an individual before coming here,” Luna adds.

For Luna, Bloomsburg is more than just a college campus. It’s a place of growth and support where she has felt surrounded by a community from the moment she arrived. And that feeling was bolstered even further by the extended community of donors who helped support her financially. Thanks to her scholarships, she’s immersed herself in the BU community and is on her way to achieving all her goals and helping as many more students as she can to do the same.
